Mrs. Tovey My weekly update from Christ the King

May 9, 2008

Dear Parents,
I love being a Midwesterner.  The ever changing weather builds in us a strength of character unique to our region.  And, much as I long for the heat and sun of summer, I am equally pulling for the continuation of the cool rain.  It makes it so much easier for the students (and their principal!) to concentrate on the task at hand. As we rush headlong toward the end of the year, we still need all our powers of concentration!
So many events are upcoming!  Our flowers are ready to be delivered and bring our homes to full bloom.  If you ordered flowers, please remember to come pick them up, just in time for Mother’s Day!
Next week sees several events, both educational and fun.  Our fifth through eighth graders will be taking a field trip to the Lizzadro Museum in Elmhurst on the 14th.  Following that, we have the eighth grade canoe trip and the Walk-a-Thon on the 16th.  Mrs. Erin Pieta is looking for a few more volunteers to help out that day, so if you are available for all or part of the day, please give her a call.   Don’t forget that HSA is providing lunch for the children that day as a special treat.  Additionally, this is a dress down day, with all students and faculty wearing their complimentary t-shirts.  What fun we’ll have!
Also on that Friday is our Golf Outing!  I hope many of you are signed up for this event.  Mr. Tovey and our three boys are looking to hitting the links with our Christ the King family.  I’m sure it will be a wonderful day for all involved.  A big thank you goes out to Mr. Leahy and Mr. Janega for all their hard work in bringing this event to us.
A group of CKS dads and boys are spearheading a Spring Clean Up project.  Scheduled for May 24th, from 8 AM to 1 PM, arrangements have been made for a large dumpster to be delivered to our parking lot.  For a $20 fee, these brave volunteers will load all the junk you can gather from basement or garage.  For an additional $5, they’ll even arrange to pick up your discarded material!  The only thing that cannot be accepted is liquid refuse, so start cleaning out that garage, basement, or attic.  I know I’ll be putting my sons to work right away!  So another thank you goes out to Mr. Villarreal and to Mr. Finn for their great ideas and hard work on this special project.
Don’t forget to return the call list of parishioners sent out last week.  We are compiling a list of interested families to follow up with in the coming days.  If you were their first contact, and they decide to come to Christ the King, you will be credited for their attendance.  Remember, if we can reach our target number, tuition is lowered for all students!
Have a wonderful weekend.  The weather on Mother’s Day promises to be gloomy, but I know the love of your family will brighten and warm the day.  Hold your little ones close, because before you know it, they’ll be grown and on their own.  Your mother was right; the days fly all too swiftly!  Treasure these days, and the memory of them will keep you warm for all time.

Fondly,

                                                                                                Mrs. Mickey Tovey

Summer is a time for family, fun, and relaxing.

However, if you find that you are bored, always remember to practice Math facts and read, read, read.

May you be blessed with time to enjoy all that God gives us on a beautiful summer day.
